Breath Work

CONNECTION, RELEASE, REGULATION

Altered state breath work is a powerful way to support emotional processing, nervous system regulation and a deeper connection with yourself.

I integrate conscious connected breath work and nervous systems-informed approaches to help you release tension, access insight, and feel more grounded and alive.

Breath work

WHAT IS BREATH WORK?

Breath work refers to intentional breathing practices used to support physical, emotional, spiritual and mental wellbeing.

Using the breath consciously can help shift your internal state, soften stress responses and open the door to deeper awareness.

NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION

Helps calm the stress response and support balance.

EMOTIONAL RELEASE

Supports the processing and release of stored emotions.

INCREASED AWARENESS

Access deeper insight, clarity and self-understanding.

BODY CONNECTION

Brings you back into your body and the present moment.

MORE ENERGY

Restores vitality, flow and a sense of aliveness.

WHAT BREATH WORK CAN FEEL LIKE

Some people experience altered states of awareness through the breathing process, where thoughts, emotions, memories or imagery can feel more vivid or accessible. You may feel cold, then tigling and warmth. Emotional release or a deep sense of calm.

Others describe feeling lighter, clearer, more connected to themselves, or more aware of emotions they had been holding beneath the surface.

Breath work can sometimes bring insight, memories, imagery or a shift in perspective.

For some, the experience is subtle and grounding.
For others, it can feel deeply moving or expansive.

There is no “right” way to experience breath work.

Sessions are guided carefully and adapted to your individual capacity, experience and needs.

HOW BREATH WORK CAN HELP

Breath work can support a wide range of challenges including:

Anxiety stress and overwhelm.

Trauma responses and emotional holding.

Burnout and exhaustion.

Poor sleep and restlessness.

Feeling disconnected or numb.

Personal growth and self discovery.

Building greater capacity and resilience.

Everyone’s experience is unique. Some people feel deep realisation, some access emotions, some gain insight, and some simply feel lighter, clearer and more themselves.

THE ROOTS OF THIS WORK

I draw my approach from rebirthing breath work, altered state breath work and transpersonal psychology traditions.

This includes work developed through pioneers such as Leonard Orr, who helped bring rebirthing breath work into wider awareness, and psychiatrist Stanislav Grof, whose research explored the relationship between breath, consciousness and emotional healing through Holotropic Breath work.

I trained as a Breath Work Practitioner with Peggy Dylan. Peggy Dylan was part of Leonard Orr’s original rebirthing breath work practitioner training and has spent decades teaching breath work internationally through a transpersonal and therapeutic lens.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

WHAT IS BREATH WORK?

Breath work refers to intentional breathing practices used to support emotional, physical and psychological wellbeing.

Different styles of breath work exist. Some focus on relaxation and calming the nervous system, while others – including conscious connected breath work – can support emotional processing, self-awareness and altered states of consciousness.

IS ALTERED STATE BREATH WORK SAFE?

Yes. I approach all breath work sessions carefully and responsibly.

Before working together, we discuss your health history, current circumstances and whether this approach is suitable for you. I guide sessions in a supportive and regulated way, with space to slow down or pause whenever needed.

Certain health conditions may mean this style of breath work is not appropriate, which is why individual assessment is important.

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE WITH BREATHWORK?

No.

You do not need any previous experience.

I guide sessions carefully and adapt to your individual pace, experience and nervous system capacity.

IS BREATHWORK THE SAME AS HYPNOSIS?

Not exactly, although there are similarities.

Both breath work and hypnosis can involve shifts in awareness, increased internal focus and altered states of consciousness.

My approach integrates breathwork with nervous system awareness, therapeutic understanding and deep listening, rather than treating them as completely separate experiences.

IS THIS JUST RELAXATION BREATHING?

No.

Some breath work practices are designed purely for relaxation and stress reduction.

The approach I work with can also involve altered state breath work through conscious connected breathing. People may experience emotional release, increased insight, shifts in awareness or a stronger connection with themselves and their body.

Sessions are guided carefully, safely and at a pace that feels supportive for your nervous system and individual capacity.

WHAT CAN BREATH WORK FEEL LIKE?

Experiences vary from person to person.

Some people feel calm, grounded and deeply relaxed. Others experience emotion, insight, physical sensations, memories, imagery or a sense of release.

Some people notice subtle shifts. Others experience a deeper altered state of awareness through the breathing process.

There is no “right” way to experience breath work, and sessions are always adapted to your needs and capacity.

WHO IS BREATH WORK FOR?

Breathwork may support people who are feeling:

  • stressed or overwhelmed
  • emotionally stuck or disconnected
  • burnt out or exhausted
  • anxious or dysregulated
  • disconnected from themselves or their body
  • drawn towards deeper self-understanding and emotional processing

It can also simply be a space to slow down, reconnect and breathe.

WILL I LOSE CONTROL?

No.

Breath work is not about losing control or being forced into an experience.

You remain aware throughout the session, and you are always able to slow down, pause or stop if needed.

The focus is on creating enough safety and support for your nervous system to explore what arises naturally.
